We welcome you to our B&B “Groot Genoegen - 50° North” in the rural Flemish Brabant village of Herne, located in the beautiful and quiet Pajottegem.

A little about us and our B&B
As lovers of great travel, we discovered the bed & breakfast formula for the first time in Canada in 1996 and fell in love with this formula. It is the perfect way to discover different cultures while traveling the world. What we like most is the personal and warm contact with the hosts as well as their valuable advice and suggestions. Since then, we have traveled exclusively this way and after years of experience, we created our own, with the concept of "an invitation to travel" and an immersion in the African and Australian continents.

“Groot Genoegen” means “Great Pleasure” and is the name of a South African wine we discovered during a wine tour in Cape Town.

Each room has its own theme related to some of our past adventures. The room "Africa" refers to this beautiful continent with which we have a very special connection. We named the second room "Australia" because we had the chance to discover this beautiful country as our daughter lives there at the moment.

Each of the rooms is a real invitation to travel and has been decorated with the greatest care and with all modern comforts, including:

The communal dining room offers a beautiful view and private access to the terrace, lounge and garden.

Breakfast
Our gourmet à la carte breakfast offers local and homemade products with a touch of the exotic.

If the weather permits, you can have breakfast on the terrace.

As an additional supplement, we can prepare a lunchbox for your midday picnic.
Possibility to taste local beers and international wines.
Rental of two electric bikes possible.

Herne and its assets
Far from mass tourism, Herne is a sparsely populated rural village, making it the perfect place to recharge your batteries and get some fresh air. The area is ideal for walkers, cyclists and lovers of nature and tranquility in general.
We are at the intersection of 3 provinces, close to Hainaut and East Flanders.

The village also has some interesting historical buildings. The Sint-Pieterskerk is one of the oldest in the area. A Carthusian monastery was founded at the beginning of the 14th century with its water mills on the river Mark.
Scattered throughout the commune, numerous 18th and 19th century farms define the landscape.
And if you're there on Whit Monday, you can attend one of the largest annual fairs in the country.

The location of the B&B also allows you to easily reach other cities via less busy secondary roads than the highways passing through the Capital.
